The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of September, increased by 17,679 people (+0.6%) in relation to the previous month, the Spanish government said in a press release.

The government emphasizes that this is a smaller increase than usual and that it is the general trend this month, marked by the loss of seasonal employment after the summer campaign, in which tourism generates thousands of jobs.

In this way, the total number of unemployed has stood at 2,941,919 people, which is the lowest figure in a month of September since 2008.

In year-on-year terms, compared to September 2021, unemployment decreased by 315,883 people (-9.70%) in the past 12 months.

The total number of contracts registered during the month of September was 1,660,792. Of this total, 775,856 were permanent contracts (46.72% of the total). This represents an increase of 559,168 (+258%) over the same month of the previous year.

More stability

The strong increase in permanent contracts extends to practically all branches of activity. Agriculture, the construction sector and the young people particularly benefited from this increase in permanent contracts.

Regarding the different economic sectors, registered unemployment compared to the month of August decreased in agriculture (-7,024 people or -4.98%), construction (-4,765 or -2.04%) and Industry (-239 or -0.10%). ) and increase in services (+24,691 people or 1.19%) and among the group of people without previous employment, where it increased by 5,016 people (2.08%).
