Sandstorm, the jewel in the crown of Finnish trance instrumental music, has turned 20 years old. And to celebrate it, the radio station Hitmix has decided to play continuously, during 24 hours, this Friday 15 November.
Sandstorm was created in 1999 by Finnish DJ and record producer Toni Ville Henrik Virtanen, better known as Darude. It was released as the lead single from his debut studio album Before the Storm.
Sandstorm is an energy-loaded track that encourages movement, normally is associated with parties and motivation. That is why it is one of the compositions that most sounds in clubs and discos, as well as in private parties, sporting events and gyms worldwide.
Shot in Helsinki, its music video in YouTube accumulates more than 165 million views.
The video features Darude with headphones viewing two armed security guards (a man and a woman) chasing a woman with a case. Darude seems to appear at every place where the pursuers and the pursued go.
Close to the end, the woman with the case stumbles and one of her pursuers (the other woman) betrays her partner, knocking him out. The two women take the case onto a boat with Darude.
The Sandstorm song is three minutes and forty-five seconds long. Therefore, in one hour it can be played exactly sixteen times. Thus, Hitmix will be playing it 384 consecutive times on its 20th anniversary.
