Coronavirus (koronavirus, in Finnish) is not the only current threat to the life and physical integrity of the population in Finland.

In February, 226 accidents involving personal injury were recorded in Finnish roads, according to preliminary data of Statistics Finland. In those accidents, 17 people were killed and other 284 suffered injuries. 

The number of persons killed was 3 higher and that of persons injured 21 lower than in February 2019.

Of the persons who were killed, 7 traveled by passenger car, 2 traveled by van and 1 by lorry.

Pedestrians killed numbered 5 and cyclists 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 13 were men and four were women, explains Statistics Finland.

526 accidents and 34 dead in 2020

A total of 526 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to February period.

In them, 34 people were killed and 669 resulted injured. The number of persons killed was 7 higher and that of persons injured 21 lower than in the corresponding period of 2019.

Of the persons who were killed, 17 traveled by passenger car, 3 by van, 1 by motorcycle and 1 by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 8 and cyclists 2. In addition, 2 other road users were killed.
