Prime Minister Sipilä will attend the summit of the European Union and League of Arab States in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on 24–25 February, informed today the Government Communications Department.

The summit will bring together for the first time heads of state or government from both sides. The purpose of the summit is to strengthen the Arab-European ties and address a wide range of common challenges.

Topics on the agenda at the meeting of the EU and League of Arab States leaders include trade and investment, security situation in the region and migration, and measures to combat climate change.

Finland considers it important for the summit to bring a strong common message of how significant the dialogue and collaboration between the EU and League of Arab States is for promoting shared interests and responding to global challenges.

European Council President Donald Tusk will co-chair the meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and High Representative Federica Mogherini will also attend the meeting.
