The car sales business in Finland suffered a further decline in August, adding to a very difficult year due to the coronavirus crisis, which only allowed for a rise in February.

In August the number of new passenger cars registered was 8,485, which was 15.1% down from the year before.

The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 14.8 per cent.

A total of 14,044 new motor vehicles were registered last month, of which 9,837 were automobiles. First registrations decreased by 13.2% from the corresponding month of the previous year.

These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and they have been produced by Statistics Finland. The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

January-August 2020

The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to August period was 64,976, which is 18.3% down from the year before.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to August period were Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen.

In the January to August period of 2020 a total of 117,102 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was a decrease of 12.2%.
