'The Good Boss' (El buen patron, in Spanish), directed by Fernando León de Aranoa, is the film that will represent Spain in the competition for the Hollywood Academy Oscars. And it has also become the favorite film for the next edition of the Spanish Goya Film Awards, with 20 nominations in different categories.

The film is a comedy starring Javier Bardem that shows the adventures of the owner of an industrial scales manufacturing business. While he tries to solve the problems of his employees, the 'good boss' (Bardem) awaits the visit of a committee that could give his company an award of excellence.

'The good boss' is followed by 'Maixabel', a film directed by Icíar Bollaín starring Luis Tosar and Blanca Portillo, which will compete for 14 Goya awards. The movie shows how 11 years after her husband was killed by the Basque terrorist group ETA, Maixabel Lasa agrees to a request to meet one of the assassins who is in prison, in an attempt to find some kind of restorative justice.

The third with the most nominations is 'Parallel Mothers' (Madres Paralelas), a film by Pedro Almodóvar starring Penélope Cruz which is nominated for 9 awards, including best film and best direction, but not best original screenplay. This is the first time that the director from La Mancha addresses a subject as controversial for the people of Spain as the Spanish civil war and historical memory.

'Mediterráneo', 'Las leyes de la frontera' and 'Libertad' - Clara Roquet's debut - have achieved six nominations, while 'Josefina' is a candidate to win three 'big heads', including the candidacy of Emma Suárez for best actress . 'The daughter', 'Life was that', 'The grandmother', 'Love in her place' and 'Chicks' are competing for two awards.
