Spanish fiction series are trendy and with each passing day they gain more and more enthusiasts throughout the world thanks to digital streaming platforms.

The worldwide successes of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel, in Spanish) and Elite, among other shows, have further increased the interest in Spanish series, whose reach is no longer limited to Spanish-speaking countries.

For about five years, Spanish productions have been gaining followers even among the English-speaking public, traditionally the most reluctant to consume 'foreign' entertainment products on a massive scale.

Below we offer you a brief but well-chosen list of Spanish series that you can find on Netflix and that will not disappoint you.

Prepare the popcorn - or the coffee and the blanket on the sofa with your partner - because many hours of action and fun await you.

Unauthorized Living (Vivir sin Permiso)

Based on a story by the writer Manuel Rivas, the series addresses the harsh past and present of drug trafficking in Galicia. The show is created by Aitor Gabilondo and starring Jose Coronado, Alex González, Claudia Traisac. So far, two seasons have been produced, the first has 13 episodes and the second 10.

This frenetic police action show based on true events, created by Pablo Barrera, Juanjo García and Fernando Bass, tells the story of the first anti-drug police groups in Spain.

In 1977, four detectives with limited resources but a lot of ingenuity and courage are selected to form a special anti-drug brigade in Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol.

Victim Number 8 (Victima Numero 8)

Victim number 8, created by Sara Antuña and Marc Cistaré, was originally aired on the regional TV channels ETB 2 and Telemadrid in 2018. Season one consists of eight episodes focused on a terrorist attack and the subsequent investigation by police officers who are anything but ordinary.

A jihadist attack in the old town of Bilbao kills seven people and leaves more than thirty badly injured, many of them seriously. Both victims and executioners are the protagonists in this thriller, in which the police investigation will focus on catching those responsible for the massacre.

The series based on the homonymous novel by Carlos Montero was released on Netflix in December 2020. The series consists of one season with 8 episodes.

Raquel (Inma Cuesta) lands her new job as a substitute teacher at a high school in the small Galician town where her husband grew up.

Shortly after arriving, she discovers that he is taking over the job of a much-admired teacher who committed suicide, Viruca (Bárbara Lennie). And she will soon discover that the death of her predecessor is wrapped in unclear circumstances that continue to shake the town.

Money Heist (La Casa de Papel)

Last but not least, we of course recommend the worldwide hit Money Heist.

The first season premiered in 2017. This hugely popular show tells the story of a Spanish criminal gang that raids the Royal Mint of Spain. It consists of five seasons, with a total of 48 episodes.

This highly addictive series officially finished in its fifth season of production, but a spin-off is scheduled for release in 2023, set in the time before the first robbery.
