Three men recently entered the villa of a former son-in-law of Russian President Vladimir Putin on France's Atlantic coast, in protest against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The three were to be released from police custody on Monday, the public prosecutor's office in Bayonne announced.

The men were to be given a verbal warning, a measure used in France in minor incidents.

The men had entered the Villa Alta Mira in Biarritz at the weekend, which is said to belong to Kirill Shamalov, a former son-in-law of Putin.

A video of the protest posted on social media showed the premises and one of the men waving a Ukrainian flag on the villa's balcony.

Beyond the trespassing, the men apparently did no damage.
