More than 10 Russian fighter jets and bombers have carried out training flights over the Black Sea, as military forces from Ukraine, the United States and other NATO countries carry out another military exercise in the area.

The Black Sea Fleet announced on Saturday that the missile and bomber exercises involved combat training for strikes against ships of an assumed enemy.

Fighter aircraft of the type Sukhoi SU-30SM and SU-24M bombers were involved, as well as Russian ships.

The Defence Ministry in Moscow had said it was monitoring the Western 'Sea Breeze' naval manoeuvre and responding to threats.

A 'provocation'

Moscow sees the Sea Breeze manoeuvres, which involve forces from more than 30 countries, as a provocation by Washington.

The exercises have seen several close military encounters involving Russian forces in the area over the past two weeks.
