Several people were injured in an altercation and suspected shooting in Sweden on Monday evening.

At least three injured people were taken to hospital after the incident in Helsingborg, in southern Sweden, and at least two others were still injured at the scene, the police said in the evening.

Several callers had previously reported an ongoing argument with a possible shooting. The background to the incident remains unknown.

Helsingborg is the second largest city in the south of Sweden after Malmo.

Gang crime

The Scandinavian country has a problem with gang crime, especially in its big cities. It was unclear whether the evening altercation also had something to do with gang-related violence.

The hospital had been cordoned off, the police reported.
