Police have arrested more than 30 people so far in a major anti-drug operation in Mallorca.

Among them is 66-year-old Francisca Cortés Picazo, who has been known as "La Paca" on the Spanish holiday island for years, the newspaper El País and other Spanish media reported on Friday, citing the Civil Guard law enforcement unit.

A police spokesman confirmed the information on request. The operation, which began on Thursday, was still in progress on Friday, he said.

The German-language local newspaper Mallorca Zeitung wrote of the "biggest raid in the history of Mallorca."

According to media reports, around 200 officers were deployed to search dozens of flats, bars and offices in the island's capital Palma and also in the notorious Son Banya shanty town east of Palma.

Cocaine, marijuana seized

Large quantities of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and hashish, as well as cash were seized during the operation.

"La Paca," who has several convictions, had been serving various sentences in open prison for several years.

Spanish media quoted spokespeeople from the Spanish Civil Guard as saying that according to the findings, she had only played a minor role in the Mallorcan drug trade.
