The price of electricity in Spain continues its unstoppable increase.

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) published detailed inflation data for the month of September on Thursday. And the figures released confirm that turning on the light is on the way to becoming an unattainable luxury for some families with few resources.

The statistical analysis makes it clear that the price of electricity reached a 44% increase in September compared to the same month of 2020.

The bad news is that this drift that started several months ago is far from diminishing: compared to the previous month, August, the electricity was 10.9% more expensive.

This means that approximately a quarter of the year-on-year increase occurred in the last month, while the coalition government chaired by Pedro Sanchez announced measures to alleviate this price hike.

The accumulated increase in the first 9 months of the year 2021 is 39.8%.

But not only electricity is causing problems for Spanish families to make ends meet.

Gasoline, diesel

The overall effect of rising energy prices - which is also noticeable in fuels - has raised the annual inflation rate to 4%, which is 7 tenths more than in August and its highest level in 13 years.

Gasoline has risen in price by 22.1% and diesel by 23%, according to data released by the INE.

All this has made the prices of the group of goods and services associated with housing have risen on average by 14.5%.

As if that were not enough, transport services have also increased their prices on average by 9.8%.
