"Ukraine needs peace, Europe needs peace and world needs peace," he said

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the UN Security Council "cannot work effectively" in the context of the Ukraine war.

"Where is the Security Council? It is obvious that the key institution of the world to protect peace cannot work effectively," he told the Council via videolink.

However, decisions by the Security Council are necessary for peace in Ukraine, Zelensky added.

He then proposed three possible solutions: Proof that reform or change is possible; the exclusion of Russia, which as a permanent member of the Council and can block any decision; or the complete dissolution of the organ.

"We have to do anything in our power to give to next generation an effective UN. Ukraine needs peace, Europe needs peace and world needs peace," Zelensky said.
