The goal is to reach a consensus to further increase pressure on Moscow

The US government is planning to impose further sanctions on Russia this week, following the revelation of atrocities in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, allegedly by Russian troops.

Officials are already coordinating with allies and partner states on the question, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said, although he did not provide further details.

Asked about a possible import ban on Russian oil and gas in Europe, Sullivan said there were discussions with both the EU and member states about "the full range of sanctions."

Ultimately, he said, the goal is to reach a consensus to further increase pressure on Moscow.
