Spanish police arrest man who ignored Covid symptoms, infected others

22 people became infected due to his behaviour, said police.

Spanish police arrested a man who is said to have infected other people with coronavirus on assault charges.

Although the 40-year-old showed clear signs of having Covid-19, he still went to work and worked out at a gym in Manacor, where he was a member, said police on Mallorca said on Saturday.

Both his work colleagues and supervisor had asked him to go home so as not to infect anyone, but he continued coming to work, even with a fever of 40 degrees, according to police.

A PCR test he took came back positive, prompting his co-workers to be tested, but by then five of them had become infected and passed it on to other family members, including three babies.

The man is also believed to have infected three people at his gym, according to the police statement. In total, about 22 people became infected due to his behaviour, said police.
