Democrats announced impeachment inquiry into Trump

The origin of the case is in a telephone call on July 25 between the president of the United States and that of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski.

Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives of the United States, announced on Tuesday evening the launch of the previous investigation for the impeachment process against Donald Trump.

“The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the constitution”, Pelosi said in a formal address at the Capitol building in Washington. “The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law", she added.

Impeachment is a complex process with unpredictable political results, even for those who promote it. In fact, the Democrats have been divided on whether or not to activate it. The process does not necessarily imply the Congress ends up voting to accuse the president, but the mere fact of launching the inquiry will mark the remaining time of Donald Trump's presidency and the 2020 campaign.

The origin of the case is in a telephone call on July 25 between the president of the United States and that of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski. Allegedly, Trump pressured Zelenski to investigate for corruption the former vice president of the Barack Obama Administration Joe Biden, favorite in the polls to compete against him for the presidency next year, and his son, Hunter Biden, for his business in Ukraine while his father was in the US Government. Hunter Biden was named a paid board member of oil and gas company Burisma Holdings in April 2014.

Trump’s private lawyer Rudy Giuliani has also publicly urged Ukrainian officials to investigate the Bidens.

Trump denounced "witch hunt"

Donald Trump reacted as usual on him, through his Twitter account. In a harsh message, he accused the Democrats of launching a "witch hunt" against him. "Such a important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our country", he wrote.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the president asked Zelenski eight times to open an investigation against the Biden. According to the same newspaper, he carried out this maneuver while blocking the delivery of an aid of 250 million dollars, which were finally released in September.
