Families with children residing in Spain may request it from 1 January 2022

With the new year 2022, the new State Budget enters into force after receiving the final validation of Parliament on 28 December. And the new spending plan of the center-left government brings some good news for families with lower incomes and for those who are receiving the Minimum Living Income (Ingreso Minimo Vital, in Spanish).

Families with dependent children can receive up to 100 euros per month, depending on their age and the income level of the parents.

Recipients of the Minimum Living Income and families made up of two adults and one child with a total annual income of less than 27,000 euros, and families with two adults and two children or more with a total annual income of less than 32,100 euros, may receive this benefit.

Single-parent families with a child and less than 25,700 euros of income and also single-parent families with two children or more and less than 30,800 euros of annual income will also have the right to receive this supplement.

Families that exceed those income levels will not qualify for this support.

Amount of the benefit per child

The amount in euros of the benefit will be higher the lower the age of the children.

  • Families with children from 0 to 3 years old will receive 100 euros per month (for each child in this age group).
  • Families with children between 3 and 6 years old, 70 euros per month (for each child in this age group).
  • Families with children between 6 and 18 years old, 50 euros per month (for each child in this age group).

These amounts can be requested through the National Social Security Institute (INSS).

The new benefit takes effect on Saturday, 1 January 2022. To access this benefit, you must be a Spanish resident.

Social Rights Minister Ione Belarra has stated that she believes this benefit is a first step towards achieving universal child-rearing benefit.
