Madrid is preparing to approve new measures to facilitate even more the mobility of those over 65 and pensioners starting next year.

The regional president of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced on Tuesday some of the measures that her government will launch for those over 65 years of age.

Among them, Diaz Ayuso highlighted the new reduction in the regional transport pass (abono de transportes) subscription price. As she explained, the new discounts will come into effect from 1 January and the elderly will pay only 33 euros for the annual card.

The Madrid transport pass entitles the holder to travel throughout the public transport network (metro, bus, commuter trains) throughout the entire region (Comunidad de Madrid).

The president of Madrid explained that the objective is to ensure that the elderly "move, that they can do it throughout the region and abandon their (private) vehicles."

Diaz Ayuso also announced a pilot project for the implementation of telemedicine in the Madrid region since December, which will prevent people with mobility problems from traveling. And she promised more money and personnel for nursing homes.
