Road traffic accidents claimed 24 lives in June

Among the persons who were killed in June there were 4 cyclists. According to Statistics Finland, during the first half of the year 99 persons died and 2,258 suffered injuries in Finnish roads.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 392 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in June. In them, 24 persons were killed and 504 persons injured.

The number of persons killed was 15 higher and that of persons injured 36 lower than in June 2018. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, one by van, one by moped and five by motorcycle. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered four. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 20 were men and four were women.

January-June

A total of 1,765 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to June period. In them, 99 persons were killed and 2,258 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 11 higher and that of persons injured 170 lower than in the corresponding period of 2018.

Of the persons who were killed, 63 travelled by passenger car, four by van, two by moped, 10 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered four and cyclists 10. In addition, three other road users were killed.
