Road accidents claimed 16 lives in Finland in April

Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3 and cyclists 2

16 people were killed and 225 injured in the 186 traffic accidents that occurred on Finnish roads in April, according to preliminary data from Statistics Finland.

The number of people killed was 4 higher and the number of personal injuries 9 lower compared with the same month of the previous year.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 traveled by passenger car, 1 by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3 and cyclists 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed.

Among those who died, 11 were men and 5 were women.

50 dead in January-April

A total of 675 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to April period. In them, 50 people were killed and 825 injured.

The number of people killed was 17 lower and that of people injured 371 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020.

Of the people who died, 32 travelled by passenger car, 5 by van and 2 by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 6 and cyclists 3. In addition, 2 other road users were killed.
