EU Foreign Ministers will hold an informal video conference with the United States Secretary of State focusing on bilateral relations.

EU foreign affairs ministers will hold an informal video conference on 15 June. Finland’s representative at the meeting will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto.

According to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the meeting will focus on the relations between the EU and the United States. Ministers will have a discussion with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo via a video connection.

Foreign ministers aim to hold strategic dialogue with the United States. In the discussion with Secretary of State Pompeo, ministers will concentrate on the most important foreign policy matters, including disinformation related to the Covid-19 disease, China, the Middle East Peace Process, and the situation in the Eastern neighbourhood of the EU, especially Ukraine.

Finland considers it important that the transatlantic security policy link be maintained and strengthened and that the USA commit to the rules-based international system.

"This is essential in responding to global challenges," said the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
