Deaths in road accidents decreased in the first quarter of the year

The number of people killed was 20 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020.

The total number of deaths in road traffic accidents decreased in the first quarter of the year 2021.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 486 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to March period. In them, 34 persons were killed and 595 persons injured.

The number of persons killed was 20 lower and that of persons injured 358 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020.

Of the persons who were killed, 23 traveled by passenger car, 5 by van and 1 by lorry.

Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists one. In addition, one other road user was killed.

In March

Accident fatalities on Finnish roads also decreased in March.

The latest data show that 138 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in March. In them, 10 persons were killed and 175 persons injured.

The number of persons killed was 10 lower and that of persons injured 95 lower than in March 2020.

Of the persons who were killed, 6 traveled by passenger car, 1 by van. Pedestrians killed numbered 2. In addition, one other road user was killed.

Among those who died in March, 8 were men and 2 were women.
