94 drivers caught under the influence of alcohol and drugs

Intensified control operations will continue next weekend throughout the country.

Finnish police carried out an intensified national drunk driving control campaign during the last weekend and caught 94 drivers who are now suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to police information, alcohol was the cause of intoxication in 63 cases of those, and drugs in the remaining 31. People suspected of other crimes as well as 41 wanted persons were also caught during the raid weekend.

A total of 5,824 drivers were subjected to a breath alcohol test. The raids took place predominantly during the evenings and nights.

Controls to continue

“The police carry out control operations and inform the public of them in order to prevent serious accidents that result from drunk driving”, says chief superintendent Timo Ajaste from the National Police Board.

Intensified control operations will continue next weekend throughout the country.
