Over 20 million coronavirus cases globally

More than 5 million were in the United States.

The number of known cases of coronavirus infection has topped 20 million, according to a tally from the US-based Johns Hopkins University updated Monday.

Of the 20,001,019 global cases recorded by the researchers, more than 5 million were in the United States - equating to more than a quarter of the total.

Brazil and India had the next-highest case tallies, at some 3 million and 2.2 million respectively.

As of Monday, more than 733,000 people had died from Covid-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
